Serra do Cipó

Serra do Cipó is a place surrounded by history and exuberant nature near one of the most important capitals of the country.

There are no words to do justice to the Serra do Cipó, the largest biodiversity per square kilometer in the world, averaging 300 sunny days a year, countless springs and altitudes between 800 and 1,700 m - all just 90 km away. from Belo Horizonte, with very easy access to Confins Airport.

Serra do Cipó is located between the municipalities of Itambé do Mato Dentro, Jaboticatubas, Morro do Pilar, Nova União and Santana do Riacho, in Minas Gerais. It is part of the geological province of Serra do Espinhaço. Its geological history is complex and dates from the pre-Cambrian period, with its sandy rocks formed by marine deposits for over 1.7 billion years.

In addition to its geological importance, Serra do Cipó is considered a natural divider of the São Francisco and Doce river basins. The diversity of its vegetation is very high, and many species are found only there. The fauna is representative and houses several endangered species.

To preserve this natural heritage, the Serra do Cipó National Park was created. In all, there are a hundred thousand hectares of cerrados, rupestrian fields and woods, besides rivers, waterfalls, canyons, caves and preserved archaeological sites.
